This swimsuit is inspired by the symbolism of cowrie shells and how they have been used as a sign of wealth, status of wisdom, monetary means, jewelry, fertility, celebratory and a means of resourcing communities in Black, Asian, Pacific Island and Brown communities. Particularly the design of this swimsuit pays homage to how cowrie shells hold value, and represent early stories of trade, migration, life and the continuity of traditions and practices by coastal and mainland communities. 


The story behind the color palette:

The color selected for this design is unapologetically vibrant because it represents an intention to magnify the following:

  • Purple: Symbolizes royalty, ambition, dreams and leadership.

  • Ivory / Cream Accents: Represent balance, clarity, and breath within the design. These lighter lines create contrast and movement, softening the bold palette while enhancing visual flow.

  • Black: Acts as both a foundation and a boundary—signifying strength, protection, and elegance. It anchors the vibrancy of the other colors while adding sophistication and depth.

Material Fabric/Makeup: The ribbed bikini material that is made up of 82% recycled nylon material and 18% spandex material.
